DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers usually consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain skin hydration, plumpness, and elasticity. However, as we age, our natural production of HA decreases. These fillers are injected into the skin’s soft tissue, where they help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, creases, and other visible signs of aging. Patients seek these treatments for various reasons, including:
What Is the Treatment Process
The treatment involves injecting fillers into the soft tissue of the skin using either a needle or a cannula. Multiple injections may be required during a session, which typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.
Dermal fillers deliver rejuvenating results that can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. In some cases, patients may experience benefits lasting nearly two years. Since the treatment does not permanently remove wrinkles, follow-up treatments may be necessary as needed.
Who is the Ideal Candidate
Dermal fillers are an effective skin rejuvenation option for anyone looking to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Typically, individuals begin to lose skin volume in their late 30s, making them ideal candidates for this treatment, especially those experiencing volume loss due to aging. Additionally, patients who participate in high-impact physical activities, such as runners, often see significant volume reduction, making them well-suited for fillers.
Aftercare Instructions
Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness around the injection site is normal and usually resolves within a few hours. Any visible lumps from filler absorption can be gently massaged within the first 24 hours, but avoid massaging areas without visible lumps. Bruising may occur but can be reduced with ice and covered with makeup the following day. Swelling in the lips or other treated areas may cause temporary asymmetry but should balance out within a few days. Avoid intense heat, such as sunbathing or saunas, until redness and swelling have subsided. Regular touch-ups may be needed as fillers naturally dissolve over time.
Dermal Filler Injection Areas
Dermal fillers are versatile and commonly used to enhance facial features and address volume loss. Popular areas include the temples, tear troughs (under eyes), nose, lips, cheeks, and jawline. They also smooth lines like nasolabial folds (nose to mouth), marionette lines (corners of the mouth), and smoker's lines (above the upper lip). Additionally, fillers can rejuvenate the hands by restoring lost volume.
